New project: vase
Continuing with the experiments in work based on children's drawings, I have begun a promising collaboration with Matthew the blonde-dreadlocked potter. He has made a gorgeous vase, which I hope will be only the first of a series of ceramic products I will decorate with paint or glazes.
For this first, inspired by a child's drawing that was unintentionally sexual in nature, it has occured to me to do something childlike but erotic. I am working on sketches while the vase gets fired; will upload when I have the idea more clearly visualised.

Yew sculpture
As I come to a finish the wood is giving me problems. It is the first time I work with Yew wood & I can see now that it isn't really suitable. As I try to work in greater detail, it is breaking along fault lines in a major way.
Disappointing. I will try to finish it in a rough shape, but the head is impossibly weak (bits just falling off) & one of the legs is also holding on by a small piece...
Mural final
I added a background based on a child's drawing of a tree. With oil pastels so that i could cover it in a translucent layer of acrylics without losing the rough, child-like texture.

Death & the child
After many hours, much learned, & innumerable failed attempts in ceramics workshop, one successful tile. Terracotta, slip, glazes & acrylic paint. It now forms the back cover of my chapbook.

Illumination
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.
He questioned softly why I failed?
"For beauty," I replied.
"And I for truth - the two are one;
We brethren are," he said.
And so, as kinsmen met a-night,
We talked between the rooms,
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.
